Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed his willingness to collaborate with India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to "properly handle" border-related issues amid the ongoing dispute in eastern Ladakh.

In a congratulatory message to Doval on his reappointment as India's NSA and Special Representative for the India-China boundary issue, Wang emphasised the significance of China-India relations on a global scale.

Wang, who is also China's Special Representative for the India-China border talks, highlighted the importance of their relationship beyond bilateral boundaries.

Wang's message as reported by the state-run Xinhua news agency expresses readiness to work with Doval to implement the leaders' consensus, manage ground situation issues in the border areas, and jointly maintain peace and tranquility there.

This message followed Wang's recent meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.

This was the first high-level meeting between Indian and Chinese officials after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's re-election.

Established in 2003 to address the India-China border dispute comprehensively, the Special Representatives mechanism, headed by India's NSA and the Chinese Foreign Minister, has met 19 times.

Despite being seen as a promising bilateral mechanism, it has not achieved significant success but has been useful in addressing recurring tensions.
