In a move following the reluctance of incumbent ministers in Karnataka to contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has unveiled its list of 17 candidates, featuring the sons and daughters of five cabinet ministers along with the wife of another minister.
Notably absent from the list was All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge, who has paved the way for his son-in-law Radhakrishna to contest from the Gulbarga constituency.
Among the notable names featured are Priyanka Jarkiholi, daughter of Satish Jarkiholi, Minister for Public Works Department, who will contest from Chikkodi.
Mrunal Ravindra Hebbalkar, son of Laxmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Women and Child Development, running in Belgaum; and Samyukta Patil, daughter of Shivanand Patil, Minister for Textiles, Sugarcane Development, and APMC, vying for Bagalkot.

Other candidates include Sagar Khandre, son of Eshwar Khandre, Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment, and Sowmya Reddy, daughter of Ramalinga Reddy, Minister for Transport, both making their electoral debut.
Speaking on the development, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar said, “In my political career spanning 40 years, this is the first time I am seeing so many youth, women and new faces for the Lok Sabha elections. I am confident that they will win this election and flourish as leaders in the future.”
When asked about giving tickets to children of Congress leaders while ignoring party workers, he said, “We have given tickets to party workers too. Obviously, we have given it to those party workers who have demonstrated zeal and determination.”
