Speaking at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday (30 May), Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented her Cabinet’s 100-day report card, asserting that her government had prioritised tangible development over publicity.
“The previous government focused on generating only ‘naam’ (hype), while ours is committed to delivering ‘kaam’ (work and service),” she said.
The Public Works Department (PWD) had initially identified 25 major road stretches, covering 100 km, for repair and redevelopment.
“In the first 100 days, our focus has been entirely on public welfare and development,” said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
As the government completes 100 days in office on 31 May, a senior PWD official stated, as quoted by IE that over 70 per cent of the repair work on key arterial roads connecting Delhi and the NCR has been completed.
“The 25 stretches were planned to be completed in three phases by 31 May. Work has been finished on over 15 stretches, and the remaining ones have been awarded and are currently underway,” the official said.
The road improvement plan involves relaying surfaces, repairing potholes, cleaning and painting central verges, restoring footpaths, and upgrading drainage systems. Notable roads like the Akshardham Flyover to Noida Mor stretch, Bhairon Marg to Ashram on Ring Road, and Vikas Marg have shown visible progress.
“The 4-kilometre stretch between Akshardham flyover and Noida Mor has been resurfaced with a fresh bituminous layer; the central verges were also cleaned and repainted,” said an official.
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh expanded the original target to 250 km, directing the department to complete the work before the monsoon. “He instructed the department to ensure completion before the monsoon,” the official added.
The department also identified 3,59,805 square metres of damaged road patches. “Repairs have been carried out on 99 per cent of these patches… In addition, 3,213 potholes that were identified have now been filled,” officials confirmed.
