In a fiery address during the Rajya Sabha discussion on Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of weakening national security, indulging in vote-bank politics, and “giving away” Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during its tenure in power, The New Indian Express reported.
Shah said that only a BJP-led government can bring back PoK, declaring, “POK was given by you, and only the BJP government will bring it back.”
The remarks triggered strong reactions from opposition benches, prompting a walkout after their demand for Prime Minister Modi’s response was denied by the Chair.
Terrorism, 'Hindu Terror', and the Congress Record
Shah accused the Congress of coining the term “Hindu terror” for political mileage after the 2008 Mumbai attacks and strongly asserted, “I proudly declare to the world… Hindus can never be terrorists.”
He claimed that false cases were filed against patriotic religious institutions, damaging the morale of nationalist organisations.
The Home Minister went on to list key counter-terror operations like Balakot, surgical strikes, Operation Mahadev, and the recent Operation Sindoor as decisive actions against Pakistan-backed terrorism under PM Modi’s leadership, contrasting it with what he described as the UPA’s inaction and delays in responding to terror.
Pakistan, Article 370, and Kashmir's New Landscape
Shah reiterated that terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack were eliminated, their hideouts destroyed, and Pakistan “brought to its knees” during Operation Sindoor.
He said that 100 terrorists were killed and launchpads of groups like Lashkar, Jaish, and Hizbul were decimated.
Referring to Article 370, Shah said its removal has transformed Kashmir’s security outlook.
Stone-pelting, organised shutdowns by separatists, and cross-border infiltration have seen sharp declines.
“Not a single stone-pelting incident has occurred after 2024,” he stated, adding that Hurriyat-led bandh calls, once frequent, have completely stopped.
Shah also underscored India’s shift on the Indus Water Treaty, saying that Indian farmers now have a rightful claim on the waters that were being diverted to Pakistan.
He said India's military is now equipped with cutting-edge weapons like the Akash Teer missile defence system and BrahMos, capable of neutralising threats swiftly.
