Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to expedite the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for proposed metro rail extensions to Hyderabad's ‘Future City,’ Shamirpet, and Medchal areas. The DPRs are to be finalised by the end of March, with tenders to be called by April-end, according to an official release.
During a review meeting on metro expansion, radial road development, and elevated corridors in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of securing approvals from the central government for the three metro stretches.
The upcoming metro expansions include:
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Future City: A 40-km stretch to enhance connectivity to the city’s emerging tech hub.
Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Shamirpet: A 22-km link aimed at improving access to the city’s northern suburbs.
Paradise to Medchal: A 23-km route catering to residents and commuters in the Medchal region.
CM Reddy stressed the importance of completing land acquisition for the proposed metro corridors promptly. These expansions are expected to significantly boost connectivity and accommodate Hyderabad's growing urban sprawl, reports The Hindu.
The meeting also reviewed progress on radial roads and elevated corridors to further improve transportation infrastructure in the city. The proposed metro stretches, once completed, aim to transform Hyderabad’s public transit system, offering residents faster, seamless, and eco-friendly travel options.
