In a historic first for Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in collaboration with Thrust Tech India Limited, conducted a successful rocket launch from the state on Saturday (16 June).
This marks the first time a satellite payload was deployed from Uttar Pradesh.
The launch took place at 5.14 pm, with a 15-kg rocket ascending to 1.1 kilometres before making a safe return to the ground.
"The rocket reached a height of 1.1 km, and shortly after, a small payload was released. Once it dropped to about five metres from the ground, its parachute deployed and the satellite landed within 400 metres of the launch site," news agency PTI quoted ISRO scientist Abhishek Singh as saying.
This launch differed from earlier Ahmedabad-based trials that used drones to deploy payloads.
The direct rocket-based deployment made this a first-of-its-kind feat for Uttar Pradesh.
The trial was reportedly confirmed by officials as a full success.
They noted that it served as a precursor to a much larger exercise planned for October-November, during which nearly 900 student-built satellites will be tested.
Thrust Tech India Director Vinod Kumar also confirmed that the company's motor test, integral to the launch, was successful.
"This initiative aims to ignite curiosity about space technology among children not only in the region but across the country," Kumar added.
