Karnataka Cabinet Approves 8,032-Acre Greater Bengaluru Satellite Township To Ease Congestion In India's Tech Hub

In a major step towards decongesting Bengaluru, the Karnataka Cabinet has approved the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Satellite Township, spanning 8,032 acres between Bidadi and Harohalli, reported MoneyControl.

The decision, taken on Thursday (30 January), marks a crucial development for India's IT hub.

Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil stated, "The first Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township will be developed on 8,032 acres, covering around 10 villages between Bidadi and Harohalli, under the Greater Bangalore Development Authority (GBDA)."

The identified villages in Ramanagara district include Bairamangala, Bannigere, Hosur, KG Gollarapalya, Kanchugaranahalli, Aralalusandra, Kempaianapalya, Kanchugaranahalli Kavalu, Mandalahalli, and Vaderahalli.

Situated along the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway, Bidadi and Harohalli are 30–50 km from Bengaluru.

The government has also proposed developing Devanahalli, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Doddaballapur, Magadi, and Bidadi as satellite townships, with road and rail connectivity aimed at reducing urban congestion.

Patil highlighted the vision behind the project, stating, "Satellite towns will reduce congestion in Bengaluru. They will be connected by road and rail networks, feature sustainable infrastructure, and create employment opportunities."

A committee under the chairmanship of the additional chief secretary will oversee implementation, ensuring a coordinated approach involving relevant authorities.

"The cabinet also approved the appointment of a qualified firm to design and plan the township based on the ‘work-live-play’ concept, adhering to international standards, through a global tender," Patil added.

The project has received in-principle approval, with all Bengaluru Metropolitan Region (BMR) township development activities to be handled by the Greater Bangalore Development Authority.
