At least 10 militants have been killed in an encounter with CRPF personnel in Manipur's Jiribam district on Monday (11 November). The gunfight broke out after the militants attacked a CRPF camp.

During the clash, a CRPF jawan sustained injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

On Monday morning, a farmer working in the fields in Manipur's Imphal East district sustained injuries when militants opened fire from nearby hilltop positions.

This was the third consecutive day of hills-based militants attacking farmers working in the fields in Imphal Valley. Security forces rushed to the spot and returned fire, leading to a brief gunfight.

Another incident that ruptured the fragile peace of the state came to highlight on Friday when a 31-year-old woman was allegedly shot, raped, and set on fire as militants attacked a tribal village in the Jiribam district.

Over the last three days, security forces have seized several arms, ammunition and IEDs during search operations in hill and valley districts of Manipur, a statement issued by Assam Rifles said today.

Since May last year, Manipur has been engulfed in violent conflict. Initially an ethnic clash between the Meitei majority and tribal Kuki communities, the unrest has deepened, dividing Manipuri society with at least 230 dead, 50,000 displaced, armed militia prowling the streets, police forces divided on community lines, and lives being led in enclaves of fear.
