Mizoram’s inaugural Rajdhani Express has witnessed an overwhelming response since its launch, highlighting strong demand for rail connectivity in the northeastern state, the Indian Express reported.

The Bairabi–Sairang railway line, which connects Mizoram to the national network, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 September.

The train operates between Sairang in Mizoram and Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi.

The commercial service of Train No. 20507 (Sairang–Anand Vihar Terminal) began on 19 September, while the return service, Train No. 20508 (Anand Vihar Terminal–Sairang), started on 21 September.

Both services are reporting record occupancy rates, with Train 20507 at 162.5 per cent and Train 20508 at 158.3 per cent, averaging over 155 per cent across both directions.

The Rajdhani Express makes 18 stops on its journey, including Bairabi, Hailakandi, Badarpur Junction, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Patna, and Kanpur Central, among others.

The connectivity not only links Mizoram to Delhi but also improves travel access across key stations in the northeastern and eastern regions.

Train 20507 departs Sairang at 16:30 on Fridays, reaching Anand Vihar Terminal at 10:50 on the third day. Its return, Train 20508, leaves Anand Vihar Terminal at 19:50 on Sundays, arriving in Sairang at 15:15 on the third day.

The successful launch of Mizoram’s first Rajdhani Express marks a milestone in the state’s integration with India’s broader rail network, providing a faster and more convenient travel option for passengers while boosting connectivity and economic opportunities in the region.

The railway line connecting Mizoram to the rest of the railway was constructed at a cost of over Rs 8,000.

The Rail line, built in a challenging hilly area, has 45 tunnels constructed under complex geological conditions. Additionally, it also includes 55 major bridges and 88 minor bridges.
