Train operations have commenced on the Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk section of Mumbai’s Metro Aqua Line 3, marking a crucial milestone in the city’s metro expansion,

The stretch, which extends towards Kotak BKC Metro station, spans 9.77 kilometres and features six stations.

According to One India, the corridor is expected to be ready for commercial operations by March 2025, subject to rigorous safety inspections and necessary certifications.

The project's spokesperson has told that trial operations till Acharya Atre Chowk have been successfully carried out, and in addition to that, a video of these trials—emphasizing the station infrastructure—has been posted on social media.

This is a part of Phase 2A of the development of the metro. The last phase, up to Colaba, will be completed by 2025 end.

Once completed, the distance from JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk will be covered in around 39 minutes, greatly improving connectivity for passengers.

Amongst the biggest hurdles faced while building this metro segment was the tunnelling under the Mithi River.

This task required the utilisation of very advanced engineering methods.

The railway line includes a twin-tunnel section running beneath the Mithi River between the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Dharavi stations.

Of the total 3-kilometre twin tunnel section between BKC and Dharavi, approximately 2 kilometres pass beneath an expanded water body, including a 500-metre section of the active Mithi River channel.
