Days after BJP's historic victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, Nayab Saini on Thursday (17 October) took oath as the Chief Minister of Haryana.
Saini was administered the oath of office by Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders and other NDA allies were present during the ceremony.
Saini had first assumed the Chief Minister's role in March earlier this year, replacing former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Further, senior BJP leader Anil Vij, who was Home Minister in the Khattar cabinet, also took oath as a minister in the new Haryana cabinet.
The BJP has secured a historic third term in the Haryana Assembly polls, winning 48 seats against the Congress’ 37. The JJP and the AAP were decimated and the INLD managed to win just two seats.
In the Haryana polls, eight of the 10 ministers in the outgoing Saini cabinet faced defeat.
The only two who managed to retain their seats were Mahipal Dhanda from Panipat Rural and Mool Chand Sharma from Ballabhgarh.
There can be a maximum of 14 ministers, including the Chief Minister in Haryana cabinet.
