Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, conducted an on-ground inspection of the New Delhi Railway Station on Tuesday (21 October) to review passenger arrangements during the ongoing festive season.
Accompanied by senior officials, including Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, the minister interacted with passengers and frontline staff, assessing crowd management, safety measures, and passenger services.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Vaishnaw commended the efforts of railway personnel across India, noting that 12 lakh railway employees are working day and night to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely.
He added that more than one crore passengers have already travelled on special trains operated for the festive rush.
According to the minister, around 4.25 lakh passengers depart daily from the Delhi area. Major stations such as Surat, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru are under constant monitoring, with every division and zone operating its own “war room” for 24×7 supervision.
At New Delhi station, the minister visited the RPF Control Room, the First Aid Room, and the “Holding Area” created to manage large crowds. He also interacted with passengers aboard the Patna-bound Amrit Bharat Express, who praised the railways for its arrangements.
Indian Railways has launched a record 12,011 special trains this festive season, up from 7,724 in 2024 to meet the sharp rise in travel demand.
Between 1 and 20 October, over one crore passengers have already been served, with the Delhi region alone facilitating 21.04 lakh passengers, marking an increase of 1.33 lakh from last year.
The Railways has also strengthened passenger amenities nationwide, introducing additional holding areas, clean washrooms, potable water points, and mobile ticketing systems to ease congestion.
Meanwhile, officials are also said to be working on countering misinformation on social media, with over 40 cases of misleading visuals flagged in recent days.
