The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has greenlit the construction of a 15.17 km long Chitrakoot Link Expressway that will link the Varanasi–Banda route to the Bundelkhand Expressway, an official press release informed.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday (22 July), where 37 out of 38 proposals were approved.
The project is to be developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).
The four-lane road, designed for future expansion to six lanes will commence near Bharatkup in Chitrakoot district, intersecting NH-35/76, and conclude at Ahmedganj village on NH-135BG.
The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model, with a total estimated outlay of Rs 939.67 crore.
Notably, it will proceed without any financial contribution from the Central government.
Once tenders are floated and a construction firm is finalised, the selected contractor will be expected to complete the expressway within 548 days.
The company will also be tasked with maintaining the road for five years post-completion.
The blueprint of the expressway includes one long bridge, four minor bridges, a flyover, 17 underpasses and 23 culverts.
The construction of the expressway has been proposed for a design speed of 120 km per hour.
For road safety, three-beam metal crash barriers will be installed along both edges and medians, with wire fencing on both sides of the expressway. Service roads will also be built as needed.
The expressway is expected to play a transformative role in enhancing access to Chitrakoot Dham, one of Uttar Pradesh’s major spiritual and cultural destinations.
