The temple committee of Badrinath-Kedarnath has lodged a complaint with the police to probe the placement of boards seeking donations that include QR codes at the temples.
The head of the temple committee, Ajendra Ajay, stated that the committee was not responsible for placing the donation solicitation boards.
These boards were discovered on the day the 'dhams' were opened, and the committee officials immediately took them down upon discovering their presence, reports Livemint.
The temple committee reported the incident to Kedarnath and Badrinath police after an internal investigation, urging an inquiry. Ajendra Ajay clarifies that Paytm was never utilised for donation collection.
“Our partnership with BKTC goes back to 2018. Since then we have enabled mobile payments within the temple premises for donation with complete transparency, to drive convenience for devotees," Paytm spokesperson said, as per the report.
Kedarnath Dham welcomed devotees on 25 April, with the Badrinath temple following suit on 27 April. However, the temple committee expressed concern about unauthorised QR code donation boards that could confuse pilgrims and tarnish the sanctity of these revered sites.
The temple committee manages two sanctified shrines located in Uttarakhand. One of them, Badrinath temple, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the Kedarnath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every year, numerous devotees visit these temples to pray and seek blessings.
