The Ujjain district administration carried out a demolition operation targeting alleged illegal constructions at the residences of three individuals on Wednesday (19 July).

The action was taken against them for their alleged involvement in spitting water on devotees participating in the religious procession known as the 'Baba Mahakal Sawari', according to the police.

Around 10 am, a significant police team accompanied by drummers arrived at the homes of the accused to carry out the operation. The local administration had accused these individuals of constructing their houses illegally.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Akash Bhuriya, explained that the Revenue and Municipal authorities had compiled a list of illegal constructions attributed to the accused. As a result of this, the authorities decided to take action.

The incident in question involved certain individuals attempting to disrupt religious harmony during a recent religious program in Ujjain. Following this, the police filed an FIR against them under various Sections, leading to their subsequent detention.

The authorities then informed the Municipal Corporation and the Revenue Department about the accused, leading to the demolition of the "illegal encroachments" on that day.

Regarding the presence of drummers during the operation, when asked, the police clarified that it is a procedural requirement to announce publicly when illegal constructions are being removed, and they followed these regulations.

The case against the three individuals, who belong to a different community, originated from a video that surfaced online showing some people allegedly spitting water on a religious procession in Ujjain, which sparked protests. Subsequently, the police registered an FIR against the accused, two of whom are said to be minors.
