On Friday (1 December), Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence that India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh will be fully secured within the next two years as work is underway in about 60 km stretch.
As reported by The Hindu, speaking at the Border Security Force's 59th Raising Day celebrations, Shah highlighted that the Narendra Modi government has fenced and plugged gaps in about 560 km of the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders in the last nine years since it came to power at the Centre.
Shah emphasised the critical role of border security in national development and praised the BSF for its contribution to safeguarding India's borders.
He also outlined the BJP government's commitment to border security, emphasising the integrated approach initiated during former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure and continued under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's term.
The comprehensive strategy includes security measures, development initiatives, democratic processes, and infrastructure improvements.
Shah highlighted achievements such as installing floodlights along the border and creating new border posts, observation towers, and essential amenities for personnel.
He also addressed the progress made in countering left-wing extremism, with a significant reduction in incidents, deaths, and affected regions.
Speaking about ongoing efforts, Shah expressed determination to eliminate Naxalism and acknowledged the establishment of 199 new security forces camps in LWE-affected areas since 2019.
The Home Minister urged a 'zero-tolerance' policy against narcotics, emphasising stringent measures to combat trafficking.
