Kerala Tourist Boat Capsize: Judicial Probe Ordered; Owner Absconding

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced a judicial probe into the fatal tourist boat capsize near the Tuvalthiram beach in Thanur area of the Malappuram district which killed 22 people. The decision was taken after an all-party meeting.
"The all-party meeting has decided for a judicial inquiry in this matter. The probe will cover the technical issues related to the boat's safety among other matters. A judicial commission comprising technical experts will be formed. A Special investigation team of the Kerala police will also probe the matter," Vijayan said.
Further, he announced Rs 10 lakh in compensation to the next of kin of those who died in the accident.
While the boat owner, Nassar, remains absconding, the police have arrested his brother Salam and a neighbour Muhammad Shafi from Kochi. They have seized a phone and a car belonging to Nassar. He has been charged with culpable homicide.
