In a significant development, fifteen former MLAs from the AIADMK and Congress, along with one ex-MP, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu.
The move is seen as a strategic boost for the saffron party's efforts to expand its presence in the southern state, where it has historically faced challenges to expand it's footprint.
Among the notable figures who have joined the BJP are P Kulandaivelu, a former DMK MP from Chidambaram Lok Sabha seat, and K Vadivel, a former AIADMK MLA from Karur.
The list also includes prominent names like PS Sennimalai Kandasamy, Gomati Srinivasan, and R Duraisamy, among others, reported NDTV.
The joining ceremony took place in Delhi in the presence of Union ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar and L Murugan, along with state BJP president K Annamalai.
Welcoming the new members, Annamalai emphasized their importance in strengthening the BJP's position in Tamil Nadu and expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for a third consecutive term.
The move comes at a crucial time when the BJP gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, aiming to improve its electoral performance in the southern state.
